Government on registration of voters
Pale, 30 July, 1997 (AIM) - RS Government deems that numerous
mistakes and oversights were made during registration of voters for local
elections in September and it warns Temporary Commission for Elections
that it is necessary to correct these mistakes "in order to provide
democratic right of vote to all citizens".
RS Government requests urgent availability of preliminary voters'
lists, by 3rd of August, and recommends prolongation of period for
complaints to 10th of August.
The letter sent by Mr. Aleksa Buha, Vice-president of RS Government
for Foreign Relations and Co-operation with International Organizations,
to Mr. Robert Frovick, Head of the OEBS Mission, contains view and
opinion of RS Government that "it is impossible to expect fear and
democratic elections unless final voters' lists of all registered voters
in municipalities are provided and made public in advance".
RS Government also considers that it is essential for the voters' leaflets to be counted in municipalities and not in the centers for vote counts.(end)
